This Section will
contain research/policy papers from various institutions to inform anti
bullying policy. These will be collected
from, and submitted by, researchers or institutions and included on the
site. This Section is not intended to be a comprehensive Research
Databank but it is hoped that researchers will feel that it would be
useful to submit their paper or “weblink” to enable a wider,
non-academic readership audience.
To submit a paper/report on this
site e-mail us a "synopsis paragraph" and a link, or actual paper if it
is not included on another website.

other students are present so they can avoid
slurs and shoves, how to cut gym class to escape
being beaten up-in short, how to become
invisible so they will not be verbally and

Issues in Juvenile
Psychopathy. The impressive body of
research supporting the construct of psychopathy in the assessment
of adult offenders (Hare, 1991; Salekin et al. 1996) has incited
great interest in measuring psychopathy in children and adolescents
(Seagrave & Grisso, 2002). The Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R,
Hare, 1991) has been well-established as the gold standard for
measuring psychopathy in adults (Edens, Skeem, Cruise, & Cauffmann,
2001), and the more recent Psychopathy Checklist: Youth Version (PCL:YV;
Forth, Kosson, & Hare, 2003) is emerging as the prime candidate for
assessing juvenile psychopathy traits (Forth & Mailloux, 2000)... |

Knife
Crime Facts UK -
The many recent
high profile fatal stabbings that have dominated the media, have
raised public awareness of the UK' s growing knife culture.
Most people seem
to agree with the government, police and other law enforcement
agencies, that it's time to act to stamp out the growing menace of
knife crime. Which is why recently launched initiatives such as
"Operation Blunt" (Metropolitan Police) and "Operation Shield"
(British Transport Police) are generally welcomed.... |

Heads 'want police knife checks': Six out of 10 head
teachers want police to enter schools to prevent children taking
drugs and carrying weapons, a survey suggests. The Guardian, which
spoke to 829 heads, found 50% of those working in secondary schools
had seen a pupil carrying a knife during the past year. The National
Association of Head Teachers said fully trained police, not school
staff, should carry out checks.... |

Guide for Preventing and Responding to School Violence"...The
purpose of this document is to present different strategies and
approaches for members of school communities to consider when creating
safer learning environments. No two schools are exactly alike, so it is
impossible to establish one plan that will work well in all schools.
Violence prevention programs work best when they incorporate multiple
strategies and address the full range of possible acts of violence
within schools. In order for any set of policies to work, it must be
established and implemented with the full participation and support of
school board members, administrators, parents, students, community
members, emergency response personnel, and law enforcement. Without such
shared responsibility, the chance of safe school policies being
successfully implemented and accepted is undermined..........(US) 75

Manifesto against Bullying – 2005–2007– binding cooperation for an
improved learning and childhood environment. The first
Manifesto against Bullying was signed on 23 September 2002. By signing
it the parties pledged to work towards a common vision of zero tolerance
for bullying. This was an ambitious goal, but so it should and must be.
Bullying must not take place! If children and young people feel bullied
or harassed, adults must intervene. (Norway) 12 pages |

Every day
parents are sending their children into the violent world of the
Internet unprepared. Our focus on all of the good that
comes
from the Internet has to be sidetracked. We watch the news’ broadcasts
about sexual predators meeting teens online and then arranging to meet
them in person—and not to chat! ..... |

A new report entitled “The State of
School Safety in American Schools 2004-2005” speaks of sexual
assault, violent cliques and violent parents as commonplace in the
nations schools. The report was developed by the SERAPH Research team of
SERAPH.net a group composed of educators and crime researchers. The team
used interviews with 1,520 educators, 925 law enforcement officials and
numerous scientific studies to create a detailed assessment of problems
facing American schools. “The issue of school safety affects
everyone in society. Juvenile crime, domestic violence, poverty are all
tied to school safety issues. The report will provide factual
information to the public so that they can understand the complexity of
the problem and provide information to legislators so that they can
assist schools in preventing and managing school safety issues.”
The report is available online.... |
